Jasmine Gunawan

Hello! this is my online identity

This new era of technologies gives individual access to share and post their moments on the social media. this new Technologies gives individual to seek new friends and lovers or someone with similar hobbies. (Smith, S and Watson, J 2014)

My online identity comes from many different types of social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook. All of the social media platform I use was under the same name Jasmine Gunawan. Personally I use my Instagram to interact with my friends and family, also posting and share my daily life. While on Twitter I only posted 6 tweets so far and it is all about my study, I have never posted anything it is all because I don’t know what to tweet but, I am planning to use it for my small online business in the future.

The first time I created Instagram was in 2012 it is all because lots of my family use it and my sisters helped me to created my account and setting up my profile at the moment because I was around 10 years old. When I started using Instagram for the first time I posted anything that I find interesting on my phone and does not have the ability to organize my feeds on my social media since I don’t even know how to took a good quality of pictures. As now I know better on how to take a good quality of pictures, and share the moments with my Family, Friends and Others. On the other hands, I am mostly a passive consumer on Twitter since I only use Twitter to get in touch with the news.

Herman (2020, p. 1) notes,Instagram was first intended to be a platform for sharing photographs, but as time has passed, the site has grown to allow you to modify photos and videos by “adding filters, writing creative captions, and having conversations in the comments.” I uses Instagram to keep in touch and connected with my family, friends or all the people i known by using their features such as Liking, Replying, and Commenting. For me Instagram is a great platform to build a brand or even personal branding since it is easy to use.

Smith and Watson (2014, p.74) believe that people utilise web resources “for building and trying out versions of themselves.” This could result in a “unauthentic” self and the tendency to follow trends and achieve popularity status. My online identity that I create on social media is true to who I am and the platform I’m using.

The personas I’ve established on Twitter and Instagram reflect who I really am and who my friends and family know me. In a professional capacity, I make adjustments to the online persona I use on Facebook to make sure I attract the correct audience and match it with my hobbies for each platform.

My online persona as a whole is eventually shaped by my behaviour on digital networks. The persona closely resembles my character’s personality, emotions, and way of life.

This is my Instagram profile where I post and share my daily life activities that interesting for me.

And the reasons why I picked Jasmine Goei instead of Jasmine Gunawan like my other social media are basically because of first it just my other Chinese name, second I had my old instagram account that I created when I was 10 years old and forgot the password so I lost my account and can’t use that name again, third because my sisters told me just to use GOEI if GUNAWAN is taken.
